About Dr Peters

Specialist knowledge, shared decisions and care that reaches beyond one patient.

Dr Rafeeqah Peters is a Specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist based at Mediclinic Panorama. She has a strong academic foundation and a broad clinical scope, with particular interests in high- and low-risk obstetrics, contraception and general gynaecology, including pelvic floor disorders.

Her approach to women’s health is grounded in the belief that caring for a woman’s wellbeing has a meaningful and lasting impact on her family and the wider community. She is committed to evidence-based, patient-centred care and partners with women through shared decision-making. Where appropriate, she works within a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic and comprehensive care throughout every stage of life.

Dr Peters completed her MBChB at Stellenbosch University in 2010, followed by the Diploma in Emergency Care in 2013 and the Diploma in Obstetrics in 2016 through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. She completed the FCOG (SA) examination in 2024 and received a Certificate of Merit when admitted to the College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2025. In the same year, she obtained her Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Her research on surgical outcomes following obstetric anal sphincter injuries in a resource-limited setting was published in the African Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and presented at the FIGO 2025 World Congress. She holds GESEA certification and has completed additional training in minimally invasive surgery and pelvic floor ultrasound.

In 2025, Dr Peters also helped organise and facilitate livestream surgeries for the PASE 2025 Congress, contributing to surgical education on an international platform.

Dr Peters devoted 16 years to public service across multiple levels of care. She spent seven years as a Medical Officer at Karl Bremer Hospital, contributing to clinical governance, outreach programmes and training initiatives. She later completed her specialist training at Tygerberg Hospital, where she gained comprehensive experience in complex gynaecology and high-risk obstetrics within a multidisciplinary tertiary academic setting.

After completing her registrar training, she served as a sessional consultant and remained actively involved in teaching students, interns and registrars while continuing across the full scope of clinical obstetrics and gynaecology.

Beyond the scope

“Caring for a woman’s wellbeing has a meaningful and lasting impact on her family and the wider community.”

A doctor, mother, reader, baker and hiker.

Beyond her professional life, Dr Peters is first and foremost a proud mother to two children, who are a constant source of perspective and joy. Motherhood has deepened her empathy and enriched her understanding of the women and families she cares for.

When she is not at the hospital or consulting rooms, she can often be found reading a literary novel or gripping suspense story, experimenting with a new baking recipe, or heading outdoors for a hike.

She treasures time with her extended family and shares a close bond with her brother and sisters, valuing the connection and support that family brings.

With heartfelt thanks

Thank you, Dr Rafeeqah.
